Classes

I’m now offering classes and workshops from my studio in Bristol, and you can choose to do either silversmithing or wax carving:
I can teach the basics of silver work: sawing, soldering, polishing and some stone setting. In a class you could make a simple ring or pendant, with some texture or pattern added, and possibly some stones set.
I mainly specialise in wax carving, which is great for creating pieces in a more 3 dimensional style.

Most of my teaching involves wax carving these days, and my students have been making some great pieces.

I offer 2 hour classes and all day sessions:
A 2 hour class is good for a brief intro to silversmithing, or for ongoing learning or projects.
These are £40 for one person, or £60 if you book as a pair.
All day classes run from 11am until around 5pm. It’s usually possible to complete a piece in an all day class, depending on the complexity.

If you choose to do wax carving, I send off the piece you carve to be cast in silver or brass. This usually takes around 10 days, at which point you can either come back for a short class to finish and polish it, or I can do that for a small fee.
All day classes are £90 for one person or £140 if you book as a pair, and £165 if you book for 3 people.
The cost of the metal used and any casting fees are on top of the class fee. These costs will range from around £10 to £60, depending on the weight of metal used. A smallish earring or pendant will only cost around £10. A large, chunky ring will be towards £60.
My studio has great natural light, and I only teach up to 3 people at a time, so you’ll get plenty of attention and guidance. I book classes as and when required, and I do Saturdays as well as week days.
